A Growing Problem

Envy – ~“A feeling of discontent or covetousness with regard to another's advantages, success, possessions, etc.”~

1 Corinthians 13:4:4 ~"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.”~

James 3:16 ~"For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.”~

Hey *Y’all! I hope everyone is enjoying their 2010 Summer. Today’s topic is something that many of us have dealt with in some form or another - Envy, but the difference is that some of us know how to give those feelings to God, repent, and move on, but sadly many of us give in to this awful destructive spirit. I believe envy is truly the root of all evil; for example, in the Bible Cain killed his brother Able because he was jealous, Joseph's brothers sold him into slavery because of their envy of him, Saul tried to kill David because of his hatred and envy……… Do you see a pattern?

If envy is not properly dealt with at its root, it will grow into a nasty destructive vine that will consume everything it touches. I realize that we all sin and fall short of God’s glory, but if you are someone who is constantly comparing yourself to others and /or always trying to outdo someone else, then you may have an envy problem. You need to look at yourself and truly give it to God and let him deliver you. If you are constantly envious of others, you will not have peace in your life.

When you have a true relationship with Jesus Christ there is no room for envy because in order to know him you have to know love and love and envy cannot coincide. If you are envious you are basically saying you aren’t happy with what God has blessed you with. Please don’t misunderstand me, there isn’t anything wrong with being motivated to achieve certain goals that someone else has achieved, because we are supposed to use each other’s testimonies as motivation to advance God’s kingdom. But if you are constantly consumed by trying to outdo others, then you may have a deeper problem. Everyone’s walk is different and you don’t know what someone has truly gone through to get them where they are.

On this walk with Christ I have learned to be content with what he has blessed me with. I truly feel that what is for me -is FOR ME! I’m thankful for all my blessings in life because I remember where he brought me from. I know he is a merciful God! So instead of worrying about why you don’t have what someone else has, you should lift your hands up in praise and shout “Hallelujah! Thank you Jesus for blessing me! I am truly content with my portion!"

Can anyone out there relate?

Be Blessed *Y’all.
